I have been in the MMMDL for about 2 and a half seasons now. So, I'm am kind of newish to the league. Played against my dad growing up through the years; but, I am fairly new to competition....

When I first started competitively, I just threw for the side numbers (left side and I am a righty). Now that I am getting more comfortable in the league, I am using 20's to double on.

My question for everyone is what is your out number and is there reasoning behind it? I know the double 16's are popular because of the succession of numbers....

Thanks for any input!

John

Welcome to the forums Jon...

Do you mean favorite IN number or do you really mean OUT number?

The reason I ask is more people have favorite ins than outs because going out, even if you have a preference, I strongly suggest you try to set up 40 or 32 because they are the highest percentage outs in terms of how they break down when you miss into the single of that number (read ANY darts book and it will say this). It's also the reason my in numbers are 40 and 32, D20 is the higest scoring double after the bull and D16 is probably the #1 number that people try to leave at the end, I try to shoot going in what I usually have the most practice at towards the end of the leg as well, just makes sense to me. Inexperienced shooters should definitely shoot for the side of the board as most beginners will have darts that land high or low rather than side to side, providing better opportunity to "luck" into a double in.

For the record I am a Tops (D20) shooter for both ins and outs, and when that ain't working, I look at the 16s.

 I agree with Greg on D-20's & D-16's. But D-16's win out in my book for the simple fact the neighbor of D-16 is D-8. Progression,Progression,Progression :ugeek:

Not to mention that if you happen to go high into the single, double or triple of the neighboring number, you are still left a one dart out. Should you hit a single 1 or single 5 when going for D20...you suck!...no, just kidding, but you then have to "fix" what you've left to get to your out.

Having said that...when I am on, I prefer D20. I can't remember the last time I missed a dart at D5 to end a game after going S20, S10. It's just a confidence thing.

I don't really try to end up with any particular out myself. Any out will do for me really. I have noticed lately I either end up with D20 or D16 as my out. I will also try two dart outs that leave me with D12 as my out. Like a 78, I try for T18-D12, and if I hit a single 18 I have 60 which is S20-D20. Though last night practicing, I had 75 left. Just for giggles I tried bull then double bull. Never in my playing time have I ever thought to go for that, so I figured what the heck. I hit the single first, and wired the double on the next dart leaving 25 left. Then hit a 9 and had 16 left for my next go round.
